1. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions below:

Severe moral degradation is a crucial problem of mankind, which is seriously affecting the peaceful and meaningful living of human beings. In the society, morality is the main source of the heavenly qualities like love, affection, fellow-feelings, respect and appreciation for others. It is moral values and institutions which ensure establishment of social peace, order and justice. There is no denying the fact that morality is the best virtue of mankind at any individual, social or global level. Without having morality, a fruitful, honest and durable, democratic, socio-economic, administrative and judicial institution can never be dreamt of. Social ills and vices, in most cases, occur mainly due to human activities devoid of moral sense. So, it is necessary to develop moral awareness and conscience among the world's people irrespective of colour, religion and nationality. Arranging seminars, symposiums at different levels of the society motivate and encourage the people of all strata to accelerate moral upliftment from their respective families to social levels.

(i) Why is moral degradation a crucial problem of society?

Answer: Moral degradation is a crucial problem of society because it is seriously affecting the peaceful and meaningful living of human beings.

(ii) What do you mean by heavenly qualities?

Answer: Love, affection, fellow-feelings, respect, and appreciation for others are what I mean by heavenly qualities.

(iii) What should be done to develop morality?

Answer: To develop morality, "it is necessary to develop moral awareness and conscience among the world's people irrespective of colour, religion and nationality. Arranging seminars, symposiums at different levels of the society motivate and encourage the people of all strata to accelerate moral upliftment from their respective families to social levels." 

(iv) Write down the main idea and the supporting ideas of the above passage.

·         Main Idea: The passage emphasizes the absolute necessity of morality for a peaceful, well-functioning society and highlights the urgency of developing moral awareness to overcome moral degradation.

·         Supporting Ideas:

1.      Moral degradation destroys the peaceful living of mankind.

2.      Morality is the root of all heavenly qualities, social peace, order, and justice.

3.      No democratic, socio-economic, or judicial institution can survive without moral values.

4.      Social awareness through seminars and symposiums is needed to uplift morality at all levels.

(b) Write down the meaning of the following words in English and make your own sentences with the base words:
